Big smile from Turkey

I spent the last 24 hours watching huge Hollywood blockbuster films that deserved neither time or attention.  “World War Z” seems to be a series of lessons on how to ruin a perfectly fine story premise, while “After Earth” never missed an opportunity to be horrible.

My own opinions might also be colored by watching “Gülümse,” a short silent film from Turkey.  It is hard not to appreciate a film so lithe and delightful, where the intent is to convey a simple message without botching it up with superfluous nonsense.  Director Hasan Tolga Pulat shows enough restraint to convey his message with so much visual beauty and impact.  The acting and music are also exceptionally well done.

The film is barely over 6 minutes long.
