The late Curtis Mayfield had possessed such an incredible depth of uncompromising musical talent which should have earned him far more recognition than he ever received.He left behind a legacy of soul, blending classical instruments with rich bass funk, plucky guitar and passionate vocals to create an urban sound that I remember drifting from open living room windows and boom boxes.
“Eddie You Should Know Better” is one of the great songs from the “Superfly” soundtrack, written and performed by Curtis Mayfield. This album may not have received the attention of “Saturday Night Fever”, but I consider the “Superfly” to be one of the finest soundtracks in film history. Mayfield did not like the subject matter of “Superfly,” a very dated and slightly, dizzily dreadful film about a troublesome pusher, so his lyrics reflect his own rebellion against the film’s theme.
