“Robot Monster” seems to compete with “Plan Nine From Outer Space” for the dubious title of worst film.\u00a0 While the latter film seems more endearing, with its silk costumes, emotionally sensitive space aliens, nothing says WTF more than Ro-Man Extension XJ-2, the star of “Robot Monster”.<\/p>\n
Ro-Man Extension XJ-2 is a beast intent on the complete annihilation of mankind on planet Earth.\u00a0 His programming demands that he kill every earthling.\u00a0 The final phase of this deadly plan sends him on a deadly collision course with the only remaining humans on earth, and the\u00a0 Ro-Man Extension XJ-2 communicates with Guidance Ro-Man through a radio that emits bubbles and a mirror that transmits television images.\u00a0 (If you ever stay in the Hyatt or Marriott Hotels, you’ll find this same incredible feature in their bathroom mirrors, only without the ability to communicate with Guidance Ro-Man!) This might be stock sci fi plot 101, but the execution and dialogue looks to be like a Tyler Perry sci-fi movie without the gospel message.<\/p>\n

The bulk of the film’s notoriety centers around the appearance of Ro-Man Extension XJ-2, whose menacing qualities seem to fizzle behind the gorilla suit and diving bell helmet appearance.\u00a0 I personally believe that the film’s real gem is in the love of a woman that seeps into the heart of Ro-Man Extension XJ-2, turning the poor monster thing away from the original plan to destroy mankind.\u00a0 Of course, all of this turns out to be little boy’s dream, which makes me wonder just how many little boys there are out there who like to inject romantic intention into their sci fi fantasies.\u00a0 I certainly never paid attention to love stories in Godzilla movies.\u00a0 What’s this world coming to?<\/p>\n
