During the 70s, funk’s signature became the hard driving, from-the-gut bass. From Graham Central Station to the Brothers Johnson, hard driving bass lines were as important to funk/soul as guitar riffs were to rock bands.
“Ahh…The Name Is Bootsy, Baby!” is the second album by Bootsy Collins. My favorite track is “Pinocchio Theory”, a bit of a sing-along laced with heavy funk bass. While Collins had more famous songs in his repertoire, this was always a party favorite.
Released at a time when disco was beginning to dominate the music charts, Collins stayed true to his funk roots.
